Olympic Village opened

  • The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Village ofcially opened its doors and began welcoming the athletes ahead of this year’s Games, which will take place between July 23 and August 8.
  • Over 11,000 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team will compete in the Games, with the majority staying in the Olympic Village situated in the picturesque Harumi waterfront district of Tokyo.
  • The International Olympic Committee has said more than 80% of the occupants of the village will be fully vaccinated.
  • Whilst in the Olympic Village, the residents will experience a range of unique features which includes a dining hall, open 24/7, that will offer around 700 food options, catering to all dietary requirements.
  • In its quest to make these the most innovative Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 is operating several autonomous internal shuttle buses within the Village.
  • There will also, for the first time in the history of the Games, be a dedicated treatment programme that will provide comprehensive medical care for female athletes, at the Clinic Complex (Polyclinic).
